When Books Brake Your Heart But Heal It Too With Beautiful Endings

If you love books that hit you right in the heart, these 2024 tearjerkers will wreck you—in the best way possible. Trust me, Kleenex is mandatory.

Last year, I devoured so many amazing books—paranormal, romance, mafia, laugh-out-loud comedies, and, of course, the ones that shattered my soul. They all had their own magic, but these? These left me emotionally wrecked.

The Ugly Cry Begins…

When I say I ugly cried, I’m not talking about a single tear rolling down my cheek. I mean full-on Kim Kardashian ugly cry. Picture me, wrapped in a blanket, clutching a pint of chocolate ice cream, questioning my emotional stability.

I never considered myself a crier—much less a sensitive person—until I read Book Two of the Besos Ocultos saga (Hidden Kisses) by my favorite Spanish author, Paz Iribarne.

It’s called La Orilla (The Shore), and let me tell you… I cried for two days straight. To this day, I still haven’t recovered.

I’ve never shed so many tears over a story—and that’s saying a lot considering I read James Patterson’s Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas (IYKYK!). I truly believed no book could break me like that again… until La Orilla.

And then, as if my heart hadn’t suffered enough, I read the following books. 🫣

Prepare to Cry… But It’s Worth It!

Thankfully, these incredible authors didn’t prolong my misery and actually delivered satisfying, happy endings (bless them). Because let’s be real—after all that heartbreak, I needed a win! 😂

Without You by Marley Valentine

Tragedy brought us together, but something stronger made me want to stay.

Julian was the boy next door. My brother’s best friend, he fit with my family in ways I never could. While he and Rhett went on to play house, I left the only life I knew, desperate for a fresh start.

Until everything changed.Heartache came along, and the aftermath of my brother’s death was here to stay. I was now face to face with Julian more than I ever wanted to be.

Being around him brought up all my insecurities, forced me to deal with hard truths, and conjured up feelings I had no business entertaining. He wasn’t the man I thought I knew. He was complex and layered, and inherently beautiful in all the ways I’d never noticed.

Not on another person.

Not on another man.

Not until him.

Heartbreaking, beautiful and HEA!!!

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is was suggested on Audible so I decided to listen to it. The synopsis alone gripped me from the beginning. Needless to say that I couldn’t stop listening though it was already 9am(yes, I broke night listening 😆)

This story was just beautiful, heartbreaking but healing and it goes to show you that sometimes you have to let go of the people you to love yourself more.

Julian and Deacon were two broken halves that made a perfect whole. Truly recommend it. I still have a lump in my throat from this book but I’d read it over and over.

Defined By Deceit by E. A. Via

Life isn’t always fair, and that’s something that Llewellyn Gardner knows about first hand.

Llewellyn’s life was on the fast track until one night of extreme passion changed everything. Now eight years later, he’s still living with the aftershocks of that night. Everywhere he turns or runs, there’s another reminder.
What the hell do you do when you try to drown your demons only to find out they can swim?

Shane Smith, Jr. owner of Smith Construction, could see the emotional turmoil within his new employee — it’s why he hired him.

There was something about the gorgeous, misunderstood man with the overly expressive eyes that came to their small town with a past no one was willing to overlook.

Shane could see the good in Llewellyn, and those eyes of his were a clear window to his soul. Shane wasn’t going to let the man live a future of solitude because his past had been plagued with deceit.

Llewellyn wasn’t sure what to think about Shane. After years of protecting himself from being tricked twice, he was now faced with worry again. What would happen to him if Shane didn’t believe his truth, and walked away?

Llewellyn wasn’t sure he’d be able to survive being left alone. Again.

All the feels were felt

I’m still crying after reading this amazing book. It was hard to read how the person that supposedly loved Lou was the one to cause him so much pain.

This book was a prime example that the universe rewards people who deserve it and that we get what we deserve not what we want. Words fail to express how much I enjoyed this book. It will be a reread very soon.

Bishop: A True Lover’s Story (True Lover’s Stories Book 1) by E. A. Via

At only thirty-two, Bishop Stockley has lived a hard-knock life. His gang was his family, the streets his home. Until the crew he’d always called his brothers betrayed him.

After doing five years in a federal prison, Bishop is back at his dad’s trailer and working for his landscaping company, thrust into a legit world where he’s no longer the alpha—a world where a criminal record is the least of his disadvantages, because Bishop can’t read or write.

Illiteracy had never been an obstacle for him on the streets, he didn’t need to know how to read Moby Dick to survive, he needed to know how to read people… and that was a hustle he’d learned hard and fast. Now, he had to change his life.

Bishop’s only support system was a young, inexperienced dad who’d insisted he call him Mike all their life—since they looked more like brothers than father and son.

And his hot-tempered, childhood, best friend from ’juvie, Trent. Bishop already had the deck stacked against him, but he wasn’t afraid of hard work to change his situation, and he did want to change.

Especially after he encountered Edison Scala, a kind-spirited office manager who didn’t hesitate to come to his defense… a man that saw past Bishop’s grass-stained coveralls. A man who wasn’t intimidated by his stern features and his silence.

Edison hadn’t grown up the way most of his peers had. He’d been raised by a single father who’d owned an old-fashioned barber shop where Edison was taught how to not only shave with a straight razor, and shine shoes, but also how to treat others, to not judge, to be a gentleman, to be respectful and speak without profanity.

But, the biggest lesson he’d learned, was to always be himself. His lack of friends and a social life wasn’t his fault. No matter how much weight he gained, no matter how many times his staff called him a square, Edison did not need to change.

Bishop knew Edison was off-limits. He’d made personal vows to himself when he was released from prison, ones that he never intended to break.

But, when Edison asked him about providing landscaping services at his home, there was no way he could refuse.

He hadn’t expected Edison to feed him, praise him, encourage him, and look at him the way he did—as if Bishop was somebody. Mike and Trent warned him not to mix business with pleasure and he didn’t intend to.

No multiple pairings. No cliffhangers.Ends with a very, very HFN.

Warning:This book is a M/M contemporary romance, a hardened man’s struggle to find real love. There are no police chases or doors being kicked in, in this one. But, don’t worry.Bishop is still intense enough to keep you on the edge.

Wrong place, wrong time

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As soon as I read the blurb, I knew I would fall in love with this series right away. A.E. Via just has this amazing way of making her characters real and relatable.

Bishop’s struggles broke my heart so many times but his commitment to better himself and become a great man truly inspired me.

I’m so glad he found someone as wonderful as Edison to make him happy. Can’t wait to read the rest of the books.

Wood: A True Lover’s Story (True Lover’s Stories Book 2)

This isn’t a romance about billionaires, movie stars, or models. This is a story of two ordinary, working-class men, dealing with life’s real problems, and trying to find love along the way.

It’s been a long seventeen years but Herschel Wood Jr. is finally a free man and he’s looking forward to reconnecting with his old cellmate, Bishop Stockley, who promised him a place to stay and some help getting back on his feet.

Wood had a good life once upon time when he’d owned one of the most successful tattoo shops on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront – until a fatal accident that was his fault cost him everything.

Now at forty-six years old, all Wood wants is to work in another shop on the beach and find a mature, easygoing man to settle down with.

But when he gets to his new place and finds he has to share the small trailer with Bishop’s childhood friend, he wasn’t expecting a sexy, smart-mouthed brat that enjoys pushing a man to his limits.

Wood pressed in so tight until there was only air and misunderstanding between them, his mouth mere inches from Trent’s parted lips. “You wanted to get a reaction out of me you annoying, immature little shit… now you’ve got one.”

Trent Armstrong has never been considered a catch. He’s a twenty-nine year old laborer, an ex-con, and not the easiest person to get along with. Everyone he’s ever cared for has walked out of his life without a backward glance, so he’s used to the loneliness.

His foul mouth and quick temper are a great defense mechanism and a good way to keep unwanted people away.

From the moment the tattooed, silver-haired man walked into the house there had been nothing but tension, side-eyeing, and sparks between them.

Trent has always held back a side of himself that he’s nervous to explore, and without warning Wood’s voice, his maturity, that maddening scent, and even his damaged past all trigger feelings that Trent thought he’d buried long ago.

Trent went completely still when Wood dragged his nose over his forehead and down the side of his face. His voice was shaky, and his breaths were hot and swift along Wood’s throat. “What the hell are you doing?”
“I’m doing what you want me to do.” Wood whispered. “I’m playing your bullshit game, Trent.”

The True Lover’s Stories are connected standalones. Each title features a different couple but will contain previously mentioned characters.

No multiple pairings. No cliffhanger. Ends with a HEA.
Note: This is a steaming angsty, age gap, new-to-love romance.

Gut wrenching

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I knew Wood and Trent’s story will be gut wrenching but man, I wasn’t prepared to cry my eyes out. My heart couldn’t take the pain Wood endured.

I’m so happy they both got their happy ending. Amazing book! Truly recommend it.

Rayne: A True Lover’s Story (True Lover’s Stories Book 3)

He was the light to his darkness, the calm that broke through the storm.

Mike Stockley has taken care of himself since he was thirteen years old. Growing up on his own made him smart; joining the Devil Wreckers gang made him dangerous.

He learned how to read a man’s intent with one look in his eyes, and he knew how to change it with one swipe of his blade. Mike’s street knowledge and f**k-all attitude made him notorious. His frightening reputation made him Big Mike.

Now at forty-eight, Mike has a successful landscaping business and is away from the gang lifestyle, but he kept the skills he learned and the mindset—meaning Mike is just as feared in the streets as he always was, making him a force to be reckoned with.

But what it didn’t make him was relationship material. Mike is hot-tempered and quick to jump, but he’s capable of being talked down when he has the right person in his ear.

Rayne Montgomery grew up on the right side of the tracks. He was used to having money and the finer things in life. But after being shunned by his high-class family for being gay, Rayne had to learn how to survive on his own.

He has the looks, charm, the suave voice, and the body to get whatever he desires, and Rayne knows exactly what kind of man to con in order to get it.

All destructive conditions come with challenges, and Rayne’s are no different. He knows he has to change his life but he’s terrified and lonely. With the help and support of his friend Wood, he knows he can beat this disease.

He can stop making the same mistakes and live happily ever after as a recovered sex addict.

Rayne just has to find a man strong enough to truly love him.

The True Lover’s Series are connected standalones. Each title features a different couple but will contain previously mentioned characters.

Note: This is the final book in the True Lover’s trilogy. There are no multiple pairings or cheating. No cliffhangers. Ends with a lovely HEA.

This is a steaming angsty, age gap, new-to-love romance.

Trigger: Mild violence

Two broken pieces put back together

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have no words to express how I feel after reading this series. I thought I loved Bishop/Edison and Wood/Trent but I wasn’t prepared for Rayne and Mike.

Talk about two broken pieces being put back together with love, respect and understanding.

This series depicts perfectly what ex cons have to deal with when they’re back into society and how much of a strong will is needed not to give up. I honestly cried my eyes out reading these stories. What a wonderful series.

Omega’s Power: An MMM Mpreg Romance (Irresistible Omegas, Book 8)

When one needy boy makes taking it slow impossible…

Sivney is determined to take his sweet time to get to know his new lovers, Naran and Lev. After all, they each brought quite a bit of baggage into their relationship, and figuring out how they fit together is not easy.

But Lev can’t wait until Sivney is ready for more. He needs Sivney and Naran to take care of him now. Preferably, like, yesterday. Will Sivney step up when Lev needs more than he’s willing to give initially?

The pack as a whole has bigger worries. Civil war is on the verge of breaking out, and since the capital is only miles away, that doesn’t bode well for the pack members. But when one of the pack members becomes deadly sick, even war isn’t their first concern anymore….

Omega’s Power is book eight in the Irresistible Omegas series, a best-selling mpreg romance series that needs to be listened to in order to enjoy the plot lines fully. This MMM romance has a little kink, a lot of love, and some high-angst moments but ends with a HEA for all characters.

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I wasn’t ready

When the details of Naran’s abuse and injuries were revealed, I thought my heart couldn’t take it. To see him struggle and so closed up was really heartbreaking.

His Forsaken Alpha: An MPREG Omegaverse Book (Omega Quadrant 3) by Kelex

When Wynter Jaymes’ mate passes, he has no idea how he’ll survive. Sure, the province’s laws were changing and omegas gaining freedoms, but he’s of another generation.

He’d been mere chattel and was never prepared to make his own way without an alpha. To make matters worse, someone from his past appears and forces him to relive the worst moments of his painful past before he could barely begin to process his loss.

Why Wilder “Cav” Cavanaugh attended Warden Jaymes’ funeral, he couldn’t logically answer. He’d been compelled to come, memories of a single heat spent with Wynter urging him there.

A skeptic, he’d never believed in the fated mate bullshit, yet one look at Wynter and he’d been done for. He’d been ready to run away with his omega and start a new life.

He’d thought his omega had felt the same, but he’d been dead wrong. Losing Wynter nearly broke him, yet there he was at that funeral, ready to pick up the pieces and beg for the scraps of his omega’s love.

When he finds his carbon copy at his omega’s side—a young man who called another father for over three decades—the treachery magnifies the simmering anger he’s held on to since being forsaken all those years before.

Wynter is forced to face Cav and the son they made that heat—and expose deep family secrets that threaten to destroy the Jaymes clan.

Trigger Warnings: Physical abuse, child abuse, mental health issues

I need a minute to compose myself

I don’t know what to say after reading this book. I wasn’t emotionally prepared to read Wynter’s story. I think I’m going to need emotional counseling from this.

It was heartbreaking to read but just like the previous books, the story was amazing. I’m glad we get his side of the story and that he finally got his HEA. Can’t wait for the next books!

Even though neither man expected the other, it’s time to trust in their relationship—but not everything comes so easily…

Bawled like a baby

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was totally fine until this book. To say I bawled like a baby reading this book is an understatement. Not only did Tate had to deal with his family drama but to almost lose it all was just heartbreaking.

I know I’m not alone when I say that accident scene had us all in the verge of a breakdown. My heart couldn’t handle the Logan’s pain. I’m just glad that Ella took pity on us and mended out hearts.

***Please note*** This book contains scenes of self harm, mental illness and suicidal ideation which may be uncomfortable for some readers.)

I keep putting myself through heartbreak

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I keep putting myself through heartbreak. By now I should have learned my lesson but nooo, I keep reading these amazing books that I KNOW will break me and I’m not even sorry.

This book was raw, relatable and dare I say real. James Holden represents so many of us who feel unseen, broken and damaged.

He was the perfect example of what it feels like to feel alone even when surrounded by people.

To feel like no matter what we do, happiness will always be out of reach. Nicola captured this character perfectly making us want to hold him tight and comfort him.

Forever, Con Amor: For Him, Book 4 by A. M. Johnson

Chance.

I never, in a million years, thought I would want a guy who smells like a tree and probably hugs them on a daily basis, but alas, you’ve somehow snuck your sexy, khaki-covered ass into my life.

It doesn’t help that we’re stuck living in this apartment together for God knows how long, but I can’t stop thinking about that kiss.

I know I said it was one and done, and maybe that’s the smart thing to do since I’m not convinced of your emotional availability. Maybe I’m a masochist. Or maybe I might kind of like you. I said what I said. No regrets, Marcos.

Marcos.

Your ability to simultaneously compliment and insult me is probably one of my favorite things about you. I think it’s part of your charm. Does that make me a masochist as well? I definitely like to torture myself.

The night I kissed you, I knew it had the potential to push you away, but I couldn’t stop myself from wanting you. I still can’t. You can flirt and bully me all you like.

I’m not going anywhere. I’ve finally found my home, and it’s here. And just in case you need me to be more specific, I like you, too. Forever, con amor…Chance.

Forever, Con Amor is an interconnected, stand-alone, slow-burn, contemporary, MM opposites attract romance that is heavy on humor, light on angst, and features an age gap, a sexy yoga session, heels, and a few passive aggressive quips about cargo pants, hugging trees, and kale.

Love heals all

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can’t stop crying 😭 This book is definitely my favorite of the series. Yes, I’m biased because Marcos is Latino and his antics were so relatable 😂

Sorry not sorry but little Spanish frases here and there made the book even more entertaining. Again, biased🤣

But seriously, Chance and Marcos were just so perfect for each other. They both healed each other in the most beautiful and unconventional way. I see a relisten in a very near future 😁

My Only Reason: Love Is Love Series, Book 1 by Leigh Lennon

Love will always find a way

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was so exceptional. My heart broke for both Dallas and Banks. It was a difficult situation for both of them. I’m so glad that their love was strong enough to get them through the tough times.

I gotta say that the kids in this series are my favorite characters. Sally had me laughing so hard. Another beautiful story.

Dirty Love by Bethany Winters

In a small town like ours, you’re either straight or you keep your mouth shut.

Being gay would be dirty.

Touching the guy who’s been your stepbrother since you were three would be dirty.

Falling in love with him would be even worse.

I resist him because I have to.

But when one night leads to two and two nights lead to more, lines are blurred and morals are tossed and my sanity takes a walk.

Now we’re risking everything we have for something we know we shouldn’t want.

And the only thing we’ll have left is each other.

Brotherly love

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I know many people will find this story disturbing. It’s about two stepbrothers who grew up together with an abusive father.

After the death of Nicky’s mom (Kade’s stepmom), Kade’s father becomes even more abusive towards the boys.

Kade takes it upon himself to make sure that his dad doesn’t abuse Nicky by taking all the punishments.

Their bond is so strong that Kade becomes possessive of Nicky and makes sure that nobody can hurt him.

All the care and closeness between them becomes deeper and they fall in love.

Being gay in their town is like having a target on their backs.

Kade feels dirty for feeling that way about Nicky and tries to fight it but Nicky doesn’t make it easy for him.

Kade is willing to risk it all to make sure he and Nicky leave their abusive father and find their own happiness.

It’s a difficult book to read but it’s worth it!

Penumbras : Romance gay en español (Saga besos ocultos nº 13) (Spanish Edition)  by Paz Iribarne

Full circle

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What can I say about this book other than it was the absolute perfect ending to one the best sagas I’ve ever read!

It’s so hard to determine which of the 13 books was the best because they all were incredible stories full of angst, action, magic, second chances, spiciness and epic love stories that left me swooning.

I knew that Paz would give our Eddie the perfect ending after all the pain and disappointment that he went through with Mario.

I’m so happy about Mario’s redemption. I’m glad he was able to truly show Eddie he loved him in the most honest and truthful way.

He gave Eddie the safe place he and his babies needed.

After so much heartbreak, they finally forgave each other and gave their love the second chance they deserved.

I’m sad to see it end but I’m satisfied with the closure of such spectacular series.

Alpha’s Pride: An MMM Mpreg Romance (Irresistible Omegas, Book 4) by Nora Phoenix

Alpha Bray wants a sweet, pliant omega who will bear him an alpha heir. But he doesn’t want one now. He’s too young to settle down. That’s why hooking up with Kean is perfect.

Kean thought he could keep things casual with Bray, but when he starts yearning for more, Bray makes it clear he’s not interested.

When Ruari, a single-dad omega, arrives on the ranch with his baby, Kean instantly connects with him. He breaks things off with Bray to pursue Ruari, leaving the alpha confused and angry.

Ruari doesn’t hesitate when he and his baby are offered a safe place at the PTP ranch. He’s in desperate need of support, and meeting Kean makes him want to stay.

But when Ruari runs into the alpha-father of his baby, things get complicated fast.

Bray, Kean, and Ruari try to figure out where they each fit as sparks fly, tempers rise, and a stubborn beta and an equally sassy omega prove to be more than a match for a slightly arrogant alpha.

Meanwhile, they and their fellow pack members have to take a stand against a rising threat to the pack. When trouble comes, the pack fights back, but it will come at a cost.

Alpha’s Pride is an MMM mpreg romance and the fourth book in the continuing Irresistible Omegas series. All books need to be listened to in order and are not stand-alones.

The love story between Bray, Kean, and Ruari ends on a soft cliff-hanger in this book and will continue in the next book.

Three is always better

I love it when the MC says he only wants to hook up with no strings attached.

Bray really thought he could fight his attraction to Kean.

Not only does he think he can be casual but he also ends up with the baby he planned for the future in the present when Ruari, the omega he had a one night stand with turns up with a baby in tow.

Bray’s nonchalance towards Kean gives Kean the chance to find the love Bray won’t give him with Ruari.

Things get complicated when Bray finds out Ruari’s baby is his and that Kean and Ruari are dating.

Seeing them together stirs things in him he didn’t know he wanted.

Ruari and Kean are exactly what Bray wants but is too stubborn to accept.

Eventually they become the happy family they were meant to be with a very unexpected surprise.
